Why choose dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are used to treat a broad range of facial concerns and are a great way to restore lost volume, soften fine lines and wrinkles, and sculpt facial contours.

What are dermal fillers?

At Optimise Aesthetics, the dermal fillers we use are FDA-approved, reversible hyaluronic acid gels, which are injected into targeted areas for subtle but impactful results.

Just like the hyaluronic acid that your body naturally produces, synthetic hyaluronic acid fillers degrade slowly over time and are naturally broken down by enzymes in the dermis layer of your skin.

Benefits of dermal fillers include:

  • Contouring of face, neck and jawline
  • Deep hydration, as hyaluronic acid attracts water molecules
  • Plumping and firming effect, providing a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance
  • Gradual, natural breakdown over 3-18 months
  • Built-in local anaesthetic for added comfort

Results are visible immediately and last between three to eighteen months depending on the filler used.

Why choose Optimise Aesthetics for your dermal fillers?

My goal with all dermal fillers is to achieve a refreshed, rejuvenated, natural-looking result with minimal or no discomfort. I have extensive aesthetic and microsurgical experience with a very light touch. This is essential to minimise discomfort during injection and allows me to fine tune my treatments to the patient’s desired outcomes.

I am a qualified GP and aesthetic doctor (Level 7 Diploma Aesthetics). I have undergone extensive cosmetic dermatology and aesthetic training at Harley Academy. I specialise in treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections, profhilo, microneedling and polynucleotides.

In addition, as a GP my holistic approach to my cosmetic work allows me to explore your medical history and any concerns you may have or have previously had with regards to past treatments elsewhere. My patients often describe me as calm and reassuring.

I will always discuss budget prior to treatment and will be open and honest about how to achieve the best results according to your budget too.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a dermal filler last?

Hyaluronic acid fillers typically last between 6–18 months. Denser products and deeper placement can extend longevity, but metabolism and product choice play key roles.

What is the downside of dermal fillers?

Minor side effects of dermal fillers include bruising, swelling, redness, and tenderness at the injection site. Rare but serious risks can involve vascular occlusion, infection, nodule formation, or in extreme cases, vision changes and tissue necrosis when not administered correctly. Always see a professional with extensive experience in dermal fillers to ensure proper technique and product selection in order to minimise these risks.

How painful are dermal fillers?

Most patients rate the discomfort of dermal filler injections as mild. Topical numbing creams and fillers pre-mixed with lidocaine significantly reduce pain. Sensations are usually described as a brief pinch or sting, with minimal post-procedure soreness that subsides within a day or two.

Is it worth getting dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers offer immediate volume restoration, wrinkle smoothing, and contour enhancement with minimal downtime. While maintenance treatments are required, many find the non-surgical improvement to be a worthwhile investment in their appearance and skin.

What happens to fillers over time?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are gradually broken down by the body’s natural enzymes. Results fade progressively rather than abruptly, with treated areas returning to their pre-treatment state. Collagen stimulation from repeated sessions can leave subtle skin-quality benefits even after fillers dissipate.

Who shouldn’t get fillers?

Fillers are not recommended for anyone with active skin infections or inflammation at the injection site, known allergies to filler components, bleeding disorders, or those taking blood-thinning medications. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also avoid dermal fillers due to limited safety data.

Do fillers make you look older after they wear off?

No. When fillers naturally degrade, your face gradually returns to its baseline appearance without accelerating aging. Wrinkles and volume loss reappear as they would have over time, but you won’t look worse than before treatment. In fact, induced collagen production can leave lasting improvements in skin texture.

What causes a pillow face?

“Pillow face” occurs when fillers are placed too superficially or in excessive volumes, resulting in a puffy, overfilled appearance. This arises from poor technique – filler should be injected deeply, near the bone, for structural support. When administered by an experienced injector, chin fillers enhance bone structure without adding unwanted puffiness. It’s essential to discuss your goals and choose subtle, tailored cheek enhancement for a natural-looking result.

What age should you stop getting fillers?

There’s no strict upper age limit for dermal fillers. Suitability depends on individual health, skin condition, and aesthetic goals rather than chronological age. Mature patients often benefit from volume restoration and contour refinement. A certified injector can assess whether fillers remain appropriate as you age and recommend alternative treatments if needed.
