The Power of Polynucleotides

by | Jan 25, 2024

I thought I would update you all at the start of 2024 on the massive expansion of the use of polynucleotides. I realise many of you may already know all about them.

For those of you who haven’t heard..the relatively new kid on the block in the world of aesthetics injectables are the polynucleotides.

Example brand names include PlinestPlenhyage XL, Nucleadyn and Nucleofill.

Polynucleotides were used more widely in other countries before hitting the UK Aesthetics market a few years ago. Their use has massively expanded since then due to their versatility and the results they achieve.

Polynucleotides are not a type of filler, they are a stimulator. They stimulate collagen production and fibroblast activity, improve elasticity and reduce inflammation.

Their initial use was in the delicate eye area as an alternative to fillers due to their reduced side effect profile.  The results in many patients were reduction of dark circles, reduced puffiness, tightening of the lids and a reduction in the fine lines around the eye.

They are often described as a ‘gym workout’ for the under eye area with results that are not immediate but occur over a time frame of around 8 weeks post treatment.

They can also be used to boost results when treating acne scarring, pigmentation, fine lines or can be used just for skin rejuvenation purposes to achieve a lovely glow.

Studies have found that Plenhyage XL boosted collagen by 47%, increased epidermal thickness by more than 50%, improved elasticity by 38% and increased hydration levels by a massive 115%.

While it’s new to the UK, Plenhyage XL has been around in Europe for more than seven years and has a great reputation in general medicine for wound healing too.

Polynucleotides can now also be combined in one injectable with dermal fillers as a hybrid product to boost filler results.

At Optimise Aesthetics we have been using the polynucleotides to treat the eye area and to boost acne scarring results but we are seeing their use expand to general rejuvenation.

They are fantastic in achieving natural results without the risks associated with filler placement.
